What are ductile iron pipe fittings?

Ductile iron pipe fittings are a type of cast iron pipe fittings. Their main material is ductile iron, a high-strength cast iron material developed in the 1950s, and an alloy of iron, carbon, and silicon. The graphite in ductile iron exists in spherical form. Generally, the graphite size is 6-7. The quality requirement is that the spheroidization level of the cast pipe should be controlled at 1-3 (spheroidization rate 80%). Its excellent performance is closer to that of steel. The characteristics of ductile iron pipe fittings include strong corrosion resistance, good pressure resistance and bending resistance, convenient joints, no odor when passing water, and no harm to health. It has excellent corrosion resistance, good ductility and sealing effect, and is very easy to install. Compared with traditional PE pipes, ductile iron pipe fittings have more outstanding advantages in all aspects. From the perspective of air tightness and corrosion resistance, the installation of ductile iron pipe fittings has superior air tightness, and the corrosion resistance can be improved through various anti-corrosion measures; from the perspective of hydraulic performance, ductile iron pipe fittings can achieve greater runoff; from the perspective of comprehensive installation and maintenance costs, ductile iron pipe fittings also have better cost performance. Ductile iron pipe fittings are mainly used in water supply and gas transmission projects of municipal and industrial and mining enterprises. Under normal circumstances, the burial depth can be 0.2 meters below the freezing line and meet the following conditions: When the pipe diameter is greater than 100mm, the minimum burial depth of the pipe top is 1.20 meters. The designed trench bottom width is generally the outer diameter of the pipe plus 0.5 meters, and the excavation slope (i) is determined according to the soil conditions.

Before installing ductile iron pipe fittings, it is necessary to complete all aspects of the foundation engineering design and complete the following work at the same time:

1. Complete all aspects of the foundation engineering design and complete the following work at the same time;

2. Clean the inner and outer surfaces of the pipe fittings to ensure that they are smooth and free of obvious defects such as cracks, cold shuts, and misaligned boxes;

3. According to the use requirements, select appropriate anti-corrosion materials to coat the inner and outer surfaces of the pipe fittings.

Common ductile iron pipe fittings include the following:

1. Elbows: There are different bends, such as 45-degree and 90-degree elbows, which are used to change the direction of the pipeline;

2. Tees: divided into flat tees and oblique tees, which can realize the diversion and confluence of pipelines;

3. Crosses: It can divert and merge multiple pipelines and is often used in complex pipe network systems;

4. Flanges: Used to connect two sections of ductile iron pipes, and the two flanges are tightened by bolts;

5. Pipe caps: Installed on the pipeline The end of the pipe plays a closing role and is often used with elbows, tees and crosses;

6. Reducer: used to reduce the diameter of the pipe and adjust the flow and pressure of the pipe;

7. Socket short pipe, plug short pipe, double short pipe;

8. Socket tee, full socket tee, socket tee;

9. Double socket elbow, double elbow, socket reducer;

10. Full four, full T-tube, socket T-tube, double T-tube, full cross pipe, full cross pipe, etc.

Different types of pipe fittings play their own roles in the pipeline system to meet different pipeline layout and functional requirements. In practical applications, it is necessary to select suitable ductile iron pipe fittings according to specific engineering requirements and pipeline system design. If you need to select and use ductile iron pipe fittings, you also need to consider factors such as the size, pressure level, and corrosion resistance of the pipe fittings to ensure the safe and stable operation of the pipeline system.
